What’s happened at St Michael’s over the past fortnight?
Book Week
What an amazing week it was! The whole school really got into the theme of read, grow and inspire from the Authors Expo where students proudly shared their written texts just like real authors with their parents, grandparents, carers and buddies, to the wonderful display of community spirit at the picnic morning tea. Then the weather turned dark and dismal and it started raining so our parade was a little dampened, however that did not dampen the spirit and dance moves of our staff and students who very passionately got into ‘character’ and paraded in their favourite book character costume. Thank you for supporting such a wonderful community event where we promote a love of quality literature and reading.

Bullying No way Day
A sea of blue flowed through St Michael’s on the 18 August as students wore blue mufti clothes to show their support for anti-bullying. It was a fun day where students learnt about the different types of bullying, created class definitions and a pledge to not bully others. They also participated in a kindness chain competition where they created class kindness messages in the form of paper chains. The Living Fully in Community team measured all the chains and Year 6 had the longest chain measuring 26 metres. All the chains were connected creating a kindness chain measuring a whopping 108 metres long.

Respectful Relationships
Our focus on Respectful relationships was launched with Bullying No way day. A student advisory Group has been formed by students elected by their teachers to be the vice for their classes to develop respect focuses. These respect focuses have been derived from data gathered from our students who completed surveys in Term 2 about how safe and respected they felt at our school. The student advisory group (SAG) have met and have started developing respect focuses which will be explicitly taught each fortnight with role plays. We encourage you to talk with your child/children about the respect focuses. The respect focus for weeks 6-8 is Calling out Disrespectful Behaviour.
Calling out Disrespectful Behaviour is…
-Saying stop in a strong voice
-Saying, ”I don't like what your saying or doing”
-Doing something about the disrespect, taking action
-Being brave and not worrying about what others will think
-Helping/standing up for others
-Telling a teacher when you hear or see disrespectful behaviours
Calling out Disrespectful Behaviour is not…
-Being a bystander
-Ignoring, walking away from disrespectful behaviours
-Joining in and encouraging disrespectful behaviour
