What’s happened at St Michael’s over the past three weeks?

RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS NEWS

Our respect focus for Weeks 7-10 is: CONSENT

What we want to see and hear:

-asking permission of others to use, share or take their food or photo

- asking permission to enter someone’s body boundary

-accepting if someone says ‘No you can't touch me’ or ‘I feel uncomfortable’

-being aware that you may be in someone’s body boundary

-asking permission to borrow or use their property.

What we don’t want to see and hear:

-using,sharing or taking photos without permission

-entering someone’s body boundary without permission

-taking others property or food without asking

-touching or entering others' body boundaries after they have said ‘no’.

Author’s Circles and Author’s Chair

As part of our annual improvement plan, we are on a journey to improve writing at St Michael’s. Teachers and students alike have started to identify themselves as ‘authors’ and really value the process of writing. Students are keen to share their writing on the Author’s Chair and to engage in Author’s Circles where they give each other feedback on their writing. Please enjoy some images of sharing on the Author’s Chair and Author’s Circles.

Author’s Voice

Our resident Year 5 authors, Iris F and Katerina M have been back at their craft again. This time they have created and refined some ‘Dad Jokes’. They have called themselves ‘The Dad Joke Survivors’. I asked them what their purpose is, and they said to make people laugh. I asked them who their audience was, they said 10 and up.

Tournament of Minds

On Sunday, 8th September, two teams of students from Years 3 and 4 proudly represented our school at the Tournament of Minds held at the University of Wollongong. Our Year 4 students participated in the STEM challenge, while our Year 3 team competed in the Language Literature section. This event provided a fantastic opportunity for our students to demonstrate their problem-solving skills, teamwork, and creativity on a larger stage. Although we didn’t come away with an award, the students showcased incredible creativity, resilience, and innovative thinking throughout the event.

In preparation for the competition, the students worked tirelessly, brainstorming and refining their ideas, while learning to embrace different perspectives and adapt to new challenges. By working together, they developed valuable lifelong skills, including collaboration, effective communication, and the ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure. We are immensely proud of their dedication, perseverance, and personal growth. These experiences will undoubtedly serve them well in future endeavours, both inside and outside the classroom.

The students will be showcasing their solutions at our Vision Awards assembly in Week 10.

STEM MAD

Yesterday, three groups of Stage 3 students proudly showcased their projects at the INNOVATE for IMPACT event at the Innovation Campus. The showcase celebrated student learning by recognising and promoting STEM initiatives that address real-world challenges while reflecting the core values of Catholic education. It inspired our students to advocate for justice and the common good through their innovative ideas. We are incredibly proud of the impact they made and the creativity they displayed throughout the event.
