Updates and Reminders
Welcome back to the beginning of a new term! We hope that the break was enjoyable for you and your family. I would like to thank you for your well wishes whilst I was on my leave. In particular I thank the leadership team, staff and Cheryle Brennan and all who took on extra responsibilities in my absence.
During the term there will continue to be opportunities to support your child, events to look forward to and things to celebrate. See below for some reminders and updates. Our first school newsletter for the term will be sent home Thursday Week 3.
Staff News
It is with delight that I announce that Mrs Amie Dutaillis and her husband Shaun are expecting a baby. Baby Dutaillis is due in January. We wish Amie and Shaun all the best for the next chapter in their lives together. We can’t wait to meet you!
NSW Community Grant Voting!
Places to Learn, Pray & Play
St Michael’s has been successful in being eligible for voting to gain a community grant from the NSW government. This substantial grant will allow us to fulfil completely the second stage of the landscape project. This is an exciting opportunity to be able to progress the project quickly for our wonderful students.
For us to be successful we need the most votes for our electorate. We can achieve this with your help and the support of your family and friends.

Introduction of Compass - Online Management System
A note was communicated via skoolbag yesterday outlining the changes with the introduction of the Diocesan wide implementation of COMPASS. The parent portal is a great introduction and I know it will help you as parents with many aspects of school life.
Please note that at the next P&F meeting (Friday 16 August @ 1.30pm) a representative from CEO will be explaining the parent portal and how it works. Parent log in details will be distributed then, along with a guided workshop on the capabilities of the portal. Further parent support sessions will be available on:
Tuesday 20 August from 8.30am-9.30am and from 2.30pm-4.00pm
After these sessions all log in details will be sent home.
With the introduction of COMPASS, there will be no need to use the skoolbag app. From Monday 26 August, skoolbag will be turned off and will not be used to communicate messages from the school.
Introduction of a School Vegetable Garden
One of the areas identified from the parent survey and skills audit was the opportunity to engage in the environmental life of the school, in particular the setting up of a sustainable garden. We have called for assistance with setting up our garden, however we have had an extremely small response. We would like to put one more call out to parents or grandparents who may have a passion or expertise in the area of gardening. We specifically need assistance with choosing the correct vegetables / herbs to plant at this time of year, working with the children to plant and working with the school to maintain the gardens on a roster basis. This would involve working with the children and helping them maintain the garden and its produce. If you or a family member is able to help us with this initiative please contact the school by the end of Week 2 (Friday August 2).

NAIDOC WEEK
This week we have celebrated NAIDOC week at St Michael’s. It has been a wonderful way to celebrate the contribution that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have contributed to our society. Please join us for our presentation afternoon on Friday at 2.30pm.
SHOUT OUT TO OUR GRANDPARENTS
This is a request for grandparents who would like to be involved in our Grandparents Day blessing on Friday, 23rd August at 12:30pm. It is a simple non-speaking role. Please contact St Michael’s school office (42672560 or via email) if you are interested! It is first in best dressed! The roles will go to the first 8 grandparents to contact the school. We will need your name, phone number and the name of the child/ren whose grandparent you are.
Mary MacKillop Whole School Mass
On Friday 9 August at 9:30am, we would like to invite our parents and friends to celebrate the feast day of Australia’s First Saint,Mary of the Cross MacKillop at our whole school Mass with Father Ken.
Mary is an important Australian who spent her life helping people, especially children. Founded by the Sisters of St Joseph in 1941 our community embraces the Josephite tradition of love, understanding and acceptance of others. The charism of Mary MacKillop pervades the ethos of St Michael’s school, encouraging the building of a sustainable, successful, Christ-centred community with common values empowering all to be witnesses to the faith and promote a deep love of God.
Could I please ask that you bring in non-perishable items before Friday August 9 (Week 3). This could be canned soups & fruits, noodles, tuna, crackers, cereals, pastas and could also include items such as nappies, baby wipes or roll on deodorant - anything non-perishable would be much appreciated.
