Welcome to Term 4!
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to another term, there are many things happening as we move towards the end of the year. I look forward to another term filled with laughter, love and learning.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of you who were involved in the Colour Walkathon on the last day of term 3. It was a huge success in coming together as a community and celebrating community spirit. Thank you to all the parents who gave of their time to help on the day and to Clare Rees and her organising committee. There has been plenty of positive feedback about the day.
PARENT ENGAGEMENT – LIVING THE FATH
You’re Invited to….
St Michael’s Mission Day 2019
On this day, as a school community, we will meet together in both prayer and action. We will have a liturgy at 11:30am and then at 12:00pm, we will put into action our school motto of “Lift Up Our Hearts”. Throughout the school, activities will be happening that will raise money to go to Catholic Mission.
When: Friday 25th October, 2019
Time: Liturgy commencing at 11:30am + Mission Stalls beginning at 12:00 pm and concluding at 1:00 pm.
Who is invited: Families, friends and the community of St Michael’s
What: Each grade (K-4) and groups of students (Year 5 and 6) will be setting up stalls on our playground at the conclusion of the liturgy. We ask parents to come and help on their class/child’s stall and also take their child around to spend money at the different stalls available.
What do I need: The stalls will have games, activities and things to buy. Students and families will need lots of silver and gold coins so they can be involved on the day.
Compass
As previously communicated we are in the process of moving over to Compass to manage financial, attendance and school administration. Recently some families were given a letter asking to provide a reason for unexplained attendance. This is generated by the system and there may still be some discrepancies between the data. I ask for your patience and understanding as we work with the Catholic Education Office to transition to the new system. If you had already provided a reason or entered an explanation via the app please let the office know.
Thank you to all the families that sent in their children’s merit awards, this has assisted us greatly in bringing the system up to date.
Assembly Week 2
Due to the increased number of Principal and Gold awards this week's assembly will begin at 2.30pm and will be an awards assembly only. There will be no class sharing or habit information session.
Year 4 Parent iPad Information Night
A reminder that Thursday 31 October we will be holding our Year 4 iPad information night in the library at 6.30pm.
Band Information Session
An opportunity has become available for us to explore the possibility of providing band and music tutoring in 2020. If there is enough number of families interested in participating, it will be open to students from Years 4 to 6. A student presentation will be held in the coming weeks by the company Yule Music. Then a parent information evening will be held at the school Tuesday 12 November 6pm in the library (the parent and student information is for Years 3 to 5). If this was implemented in 2020 please note that it is a contract that as parents you enter into with Yule music, not the school. Notes will go home after the student information session. If you are interested you must attend the parent information session.
End of Year Christmas Concert
This year the P&F and the school community are coming together to present a Christmas Concert. This will be held on Friday 6 December, 5pm-8pm. All classes will be sharing a Christmas song performance and there will also be some carols provided by some local musicians. We look forward to celebrating with you.
P&F Meeting Term 4
Please join us for the P&F meeting this term on Friday 8 November, 9.30am in the library. Join us for tea and coffee and an opportunity to celebrate 2019 and look forward to 2020. Please have any items that you would like placed on the agenda to the executive by Thursday 31st October.
School Garden
Our school garden is growing and beginning to generate some amazing produce. We were able to pick some radishes and spinach late Friday. Next time the garden produces some vegetables we will send out an alert via compass and sell it to the parent community at pick up for gold coin donations. Keep an eye out for the alerts as we are unable to predict at this stage when the next picking will be! All funds raised will go towards maintaining the garden.
Thank you to Mr Smith and the stage 3 students for getting us started.
