Dear Parents and Carers,
I sincerely hope that the school holidays was an opportunity to slow down and spend some quality time with family and friends. Term 4 is always a little bit of a whirlwind and seems to go by so very quickly. This year I would like to put the challenge out to all of us, me included, to live in the present and savour and be grateful for each and every opportunity that comes our way in term 4.
We begin with our transition to school playgroups in Week 2 and this is always an absolute pleasure. I am excited that this year we are able to return to the full program and welcome our new members of our community and parents to our beautiful school over 4 weeks. Look out for those smiling but perhaps slightly nervous smiles and that just may be our parents!
St Michael’s Thirroul Possible Before and After School Care Exploration
This year I have been working with Catholic Care at the possibility of starting up a before and after school care on our site. Please be mindful that this is very much in the early stages and the physical site is yet to be fully assessed for viability. It has had an initial inspection and if it was to go ahead there is still some significant work that would be required.
One of the first and initial steps is to gauge the genuine interest from our school community of parents to see if there is enough number of families who would use this service if it was available. I am pleased that we are able to begin this discussion. I know that this would be a service that would be greatly valued by our community.
Please complete the expression of interest survey developed by Catholic Care by 28 October.
Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions about the before and after school care viability please do not hesitate to contact me.
God Bless
Mrs Belinda Hughes - Principal

Student Absences, Early Departures and Late Arrivals
A student’s attendance at school is an important part of their learning journey. Not only is it a legal requirement but it also forms a critical part of their social, emotional and academic growth as a young person.
There have been many children turning up to school late and leaving early. Please limit appointments to before or after school hours and attempt to have holiday breaks during the school vacation period. If your child is running late and has arrived after 9am they MUST be signed in by an adult, please do not drop them off at the school gate and allow them to come through the office unattended.
As a school we are following the CEO Dow Policy & Procedure and some families may receive a letter raising an awareness of emerging attendance concerns, asking families to explain unexplained absences or advising of consistent late arrival. If you have any questions about this correspondence, please contact the school.
Thank you for your co operation with this procedure.
