Parent Spirituality
Ripples is a PODCAST developed for staff and parents on-going spiritual formation designed by Robyn Gallagher (Professional Officer - Staff Spiritual Formation - Catholic Education Office). It seeks to offer a space where people can draw on the wisdom of a series of guest speakers and can experience some treasured stillness through meditation. Practices like these create a ripple effect. They have the potential to impact the way we respond to family, friends, colleagues, to creation and to our loving God. Come and enjoy some Inspired Voices and Treasured Stillness.
RIPPLE EFFECT
This program is called Ripples because of Robyn’s belief that there are some practices that have a ripple effect. When we have time to connect with matters of the heart, to hear a new perspective and to enter into silence we are more able to respond to life from a better place and space. And this has a ripple effect. It impacts the way we respond to family, friends, colleagues, others in our world, to creation and to our God.
THE PROGRAM
Each week a new Episode and Meditation will be offered.
You may like to listen to both the Episode and the Meditation in one sitting or you may choose to do them at different times of the day or week. You can choose a time that works best for you.
A journal is a wonderful tool to support you in this time of reflection, so you may like to bring this with you as you sit with a question that the guest speaker offers during their Episode.
Come away and rest a while.

Do You Wish to Attend Mass Saturday/Sunday?
If you wish to attend Mass at Thirroul on Saturdays [5:30pm] or Sundays [8:00am], you must register beforehand with the Parish Office – please register by 10:00am on the Wednesday prior to the weekend you wish to attend.
Either phone or email the Parish Office stating what dates you wish to attend – and how many from your family wish to attend with you.
Health regulations allow a maximum of 50 worshippers at Masses, excluding those essential for and those assisting at the liturgy.
Remember, if you are elderly or not feeling well, then, for your safety, please do not attend.
Please do not arrive late for Masses – aim to arrive at least 5 minutes before Mass is due to begin.
Entry to the church is only via the sacristy door.
There are no collections during Mass, but you may leave your donations in the basket or bowl as you enter or leave through the sacristy.
There are hand sanitizers inside the sacristy door.
You do not need to register beforehand if you wish to attend a weekday Mass, though when you arrive, your details will be recorded.
All who attend must observe social distancing of 1.5m – except for people from the same household.
Wellbeing Insights from a NATIONAL CHAMP!
This year at St Michael’s one of our School, Review and Improvement (SRI) goals is “to have a shared understanding of a holistic and balanced education so that students continually evolve into the best version of themselves”. In line with this goal we have asked Miss Chloe Tighe (a former teacher and current casual teacher at St Michael’s) to provide us with some of her recommendations about wellbeing and nutrition. Chloe is a National Champion for the 1500m and has represented Australia on an international level for Cross Country.
Miss Tighe’s Top Tips:
- Practice mindfulness during exercise.
Mindfulness makes you more aware of your body and how you move, it optimises performance and provides stress relief. Next time you go for a run, try listening to your breathing or to the sound of your footsteps pounding the pavement. Ultimately take the time to appreciate what your body can do.
- Eat a nutritious breakfast
The health benefits of breakfast are really important, especially for young people. It is the first meal of the day, that provides your body with the opportunity to re-fuel for the day ahead. Eating a healthy breakfast boosts mental and physical performance, improves mood and provides your body with essential nutrients.
My favourite is oats with banana, peanut butter and chia seeds.
- Eat a snack after exercise
Afternoons can be very busy with children participating in different physical activities. You should also aim to eat a carbohydrate and protein food source no more than 30 minutes after activity. This replenishes muscles and tissues that have worked hard during physical activity.
- Have a regular sleep routine
Establish a consistent bed routine; sleep is vital in assisting your body to repair and replenish. Good sleep can improve concentration, mood, memory and learning. Try going to bed at the same time every night, and creating a relaxing pre-sleep routine that avoids devices.
- Participate in activities that you enjoy!
Physical activity doesn't always need to be strenuous and planned, taking the dog for a walk, playing at the park or swimming at the beach are all healthy forms of exercise that will provide wonderful health benefits! Have fun and enjoy the outside environment, you will reap the rewards.

Bringing our writing to life
Over the past two weeks our Stage 3 teachers and students have engaged in an exciting new project called ‘Bringing our writing to life.’ The purpose of this project is to consolidate the brilliant learning that has happened and allow the students to represent their quality writing samples in new and creative ways. To do this students have been exploring different techniques used to create multimodal texts with the aim to utilise some of these strategies to bring their texts to life through animation. In week 10 we are extremely fortunate to have Paul Hamilton from Using Technology Better provide us with a series of workshops to help equip our students with the skills to bring their visions of their writing to reality. This will include three one hour workshops on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. On Monday we will also have some representatives from the Catholic Education Office and Holy Spirit College come out to speak to our students and teachers about this new and innovative process that has led to such high quality learning and student engagement.
Assembly
On Friday of week 10 we will continue our fortnightly assembly via zoom. Once again members from our Year 6 leadership team will be supporting us in leading this assembly. The structure will once again include our regular awards, prayer and The Leader In Me activities and key messages.

Parent Teacher Interviews (Kinder - Year 6)
Parent teacher Interviews will begin on Monday 29 June. Please be reminded to follow the strict guidelines that have been implemented to maintain everyone’s safety. As communicated last week no children or younger siblings will be allowed on site and parents will be asked to not turn up to the interviews more than 5 mins before.
I thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
Students Who are Unwell
In this unprecedented time of new guidelines and restrictions there have been a heightened awareness of keeping everyone safe and healthy. In line with this if your child is unwell and stays home OR is sent home from school unwell, parents are required to obtain a medical certificate that specifically states that your child is fit to return to school. Please note this is not necessarily connected to Covid, this is not about being Covid negative it is clearance that your child is no longer exhibiting flu like symptoms. We understand this presents complexities and challenges for all families, we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
School Attendance
It is important that all students are attending school when fit and well. It is a legislative and moral obligation that children attend school. Please refrain from keeping children home for birthdays and avoid medical appointments during the school day.
It is expected that children arrive to school on time, recently there has been an increase in students arriving late. Please ensure that you allow time in the mornings to have children ready and at school before 9am.
